Darlene Tellis – Jazz at the Center

Darlene’s velvety voice has entertained a variety of audiences. Musical comedy, jazz, gospel, and R&B have been a part of her repertoire, but her main focus is jazz. You’ll hear styles of Sarah Vaughn, Ella Fitzgerald, Nancy Wilson, and Patty Austin. She sings the classic standards and makes them her own with her smooth styling.

Darlene grew up in Detroit, the music mecca, Motown! Listening to the music of her mother and father, with artists ranging from Johnny Mathis and Al Green, all the way to the opera Madame Butterfly.

Darlene started her musical endeavor pursuing classical music and voice training in elementary school, with Detroit’s renowned, Celeste Cole, she later attended Southern University. She eventually joined the jazz studies under the tutelage of Mr. Alvin Baptiste.

At the Center

The Center for Musical Arts proudly presents our “at the Center” concert series, where our goal is to give Sacramento musicians the event space they deserve. Music school by day, concert venue by night—our listening room features a stage, baby grand piano, and an intimate 30-seat capacity.
