Upon moving to Sacramento\, they went on to look for professional caliber musicians in order to push one other into creating great music. Constants features Jackson Riley on saxophone\, Nate Furgason on bass and Scott Gordon on drums. Taking inspiration from both classic and modern music\, this group seeks to meld them together and push the genre forward\, while respecting what has come before. DESCRIPTION:Thomas Blumberg: Syzygy is a group of LA-based musicians and educators. Each member is a full time performer and educator. Join them as they explore original compositions\, and other songs from a wide array of genres including The Beatles\, John Coltrane\, Wayne Shorter\, Paul Simon\, and many more. \nThe quartet consists of Thomas Blumberg (guitar)\, Arno Kristensen (piano)\, and Nico Vasquez (drums). Together they have decades of experience and have been on tour throughout the California area. \nThomas is currently in an artist fellowship with The California Institute of the Arts. He has had the opportunity to play and study with Steve Lehman\, Vardan Ovsepian\, Larry Koonse\, Jonathan Pinson\, Ravi Coltrane\, and Darek Oles. \nIn addition to performing\, Thomas and his bandmates Arno Kristensen and Nico Vasquezwill be holding a masterclass that same day! The masterclass will feature the band talking about the experience of being professional traveling musicians in the California area\, in addition to covering musical and improvisational techniques. DESCRIPTION:Led by Daniel J Owens (piano)\, founder of the Center for Musical Arts in Sacramento\, Wizard Robot features Nate Furgason on bass and Jacob Swedlow on drums. Inspired by both contemporary and classic tunes\, the trio aims to blur the lines between some of the most recognizable pop songs and legendary jazz standards. The results have engaged both new listeners and jazz fans alike. \nThe group has performed for audiences in venues such as The California Jazz Conservatory\, Yoshi’s Oakland\, Somethin\, The Bitter End and Pianos in New York City\, and various jazz festivals including the Monterey Jazz Fest. \nWith a residency at the Center recently announced\, you’ll be able to enjoy Wizard Robot on the 4th Friday of every month. \nAt the Center \nThe Center for Musical Arts proudly presents our “At the Center” concert series\, where our goal is to give Sacramento musicians the event space they deserve. Music school by day\, concert venue by night—our listening room features a stage\, baby grand piano\, and an intimate 30-seat capacity.
