DESCRIPTION:Paul Cornish hails from Houston\, Texas\, where he was a student at the prestigious High School for the Performing and Visual Arts\, whose alumni also include jazz luminaries such as Jason Moran\, Robert Glasper\, Eric Harland\, Kendrick Scott\, Chris Dave\, Walter Smith III\, James Francies\, and others. Cornish was one of seven jazz prodigies worldwide awarded a full fellowship to attend the esteemed Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz at UCLA where he completed his master’s degree. He was a finalist in the 2023 American Pianists Awards and the Herbie Hancock International Jazz Piano Competition. Cornish has performed extensively across the globe with such notable artists as Joshua Redman\, Louis Cole\, Mark Guiliana\, HAIM\, Snoh Aalegra\, Terrace Martin\, Kanye West\, and many more. He strives to inspire freedom and collaboration in his music and community. \nThe masterclass (5:30–6:30 PM) will be followed by a live performance (7:00-9:00 PM). SUMMARY:Dave Bass Trio Nuevo - Jazz at the Center
DESCRIPTION:Pianist\, composer and lyricist\, Dave Bass began piano lessons at age seven\, and after high school\, played in bands opening for Captain Beefheart and Alice Cooper. Accepted at Berklee College of Music\, he left to study piano with Madame Chaloff and composition with George Russell. Then\, as Brenda Lee’s pianist\, he toured the world. \nIn San Francisco he played with friends like Bobby McFerrin and Babatunde. Fracturing his wrist and unable to play\, Bass enrolled at the University of California\, graduating Phi Beta Kappa and Summa Cum Laude. He went on to UCLA School of Law\, and eventually a Deputy Attorney General in California. \nIn 2005\, Bass discovered he could play again and released his first album\, Gone\, in 2010\, featuring Ernie Watts and Mary Stalling. It hit #2 on JazzWeek. His second album\, NYC Sessions\, featured Phil Woods. Downbeat awarded it 4 stars. His third album\, No Boundaries\, featured Ted Nash and Carlos Henriquez. \nIn 2021\, Bass focused on the trio\, releasing five trio albums.
